VR Tours on Soul of Africa

Welcome to the 360 degree exhibition of the SOUL OF AFRICA Museum from Essen, Germany.

In the exhibition "Voodoo Rainbow", the spread of religions from West and Central Africa through the transatlantic trade with enslaved Africans is explained in more detail by Henning Christoph, director of the SOUL OF AFRICA Museum. Religions, such as the West African Vodun, intermingled with the religions of other enslaved people, the beliefs of indigenous populations, and the Christianity of European colonialists. The SOUL OF AFRICA Museum shows the origins of various religions on the African continent and resulting diaspora religions from Cuba, Haiti and Brazil. Furthermore, the topic of slavery is highlighted.

The SECRETS exhibition of the SOUL OF AFRICA Museum was a special exhibition that opened on September 28, 2019 at the SOUL OF AFRICA Museum in Essen, Germany. In this digital version of the exhibition, the 7 secrets that Henning Christoph discovered in Africa and in the African Diaspora between 2004 and 2019 can now be seen online.

You can visit the exhibition at home on your desktop, on the road on your tablet and smartphone or with a VR headset.

By clicking and holding the mouse, you can move the room in 360 degrees. With the touchscreen, you can move the room by manually shifting the image. With a VR headset, you can rotate and move your own position in the room.

The video clips that start automatically when you enter a room can be restarted after closing the room using the buttons in the menu footer.

Selected exhibition objects can be viewed in 3D, as images or as videos. For a more pleasant viewing of the exhibition, these objects can only be recognised and activated after a mouseover or similar.

Due to the large amount of data that is transferred (videos approx. 2.5 hours), we recommend a stable, fast internet connection (at least 50 Mbit/s download) and a flat rate.
